Now I got it. Here are some photos I took of the amp.
Hope somebody can help with infos. I think the blue ones inside are "new", the amp was
fixed once in 97or 98.
Thanks
Peter

That looks like a Matamp-made amp - I believe all the GRO amps were. The output transformer and choke look like the transformers Matamp used, and the EQ knobs are what Matamp used (Orange's other builders used the smaller knobs that are still used on some of the amps today). But it also looks like the power transformer has been replaced. It looks to be in great shape otherwise. Those are very loud amps, so I can understand other players wanting you to turn down.

Thank you, that´s it. The power unit was replaced, i did´nt know the expression in English.
This was 97 0r 98. They said the speaker box was running on the wrong resistance...ohm( in German).
Does anybody know, how many of the GRO´s were built in that time?
Greetings
Peter

Do you have any pictures of the inside of the chassis? It might be nice to see if the repairs were done correctly.

I didn't realize that GRO's were built after Orange went to the pics and text faceplates in '73. If it's as close electronically as it is numerically to the #842 schematic on the field guide, it's basically a Matamp GT120. I have no clue how many they ultimately made.

Hello
I think you mean pictures of all the little electronic stuff inside the amp?
I´ll do some in the weekend, first I have to find out, how to get the inside out....
But it has to be correct, in my opinion, because the amp runs very good, I play it
maybe twice a month for 3 hours and it´s alway doin what I expect.
That they changed the faceplate is a very nice advice...73..hm...maybe 74 then I can
celebrate it´s 40 birthday.
By the way, another question comes to my mind..
How can you use the echo plug in and out?
Can I use it as a second way for any pedal (for example distortion or something)
or do I have to use only the original union made by orange? ( of course I don´t have one).
Thanks, Peter

I wasn't asking for internal pics, just pointing out that's is probably a gt120 circuit. However, now that you mention it, I would be interested in seeing the guts when you get the chance.

As for the pedals, I used the Boss emulation of the Fender '63 Reverb into the front end for best results. I couldn't get the echo loop to sound right.

The echo loop is only useful with delay, echo, or reverb. But you need to use an effect that has the ability to turn the dry/direct signal down, as the echo loop sends the amp's dry signal right through.

Considering the amp was made by Matamp, yours might be like mine - having a GT-120 PCB inside. That doesn't mean much to anyone other than amp nerds, but trust me, it's awesome.

I didn't know you had a GRO, MARR. Are there any vintage orange's you don't have???

I don't have a GRO per se, but my OR80 is definitely Matamp built and has a GT-120 board in it.

Hey there,
Here you can see the electronic stuff inside the amp.
Greetings and thanks for your infos about it.
Maybe they decleraded it as a 100 model for export?
Who knows it in the end it´s a modified OR model......

Yeah, yours has a GT-120 circuit board in it. There appear to be some extra capacitors on the board, either a result of the replacement transformer, or the correct value was not available when the capacitors were replaced.

From the outside it looks identical to my No. 842 which I drew up the schematics for 10 years ago and posted on the orange field guide. the only difference I noticed is that mine has the model written as GRO 100/2, it would interest me to know whether your FAC is straight from the input like the other GRO100 schem I posted , or after the first tube like mine.
There seems to have been a recap job done when the tranny was changed.
Great amp, and also here in Germany like mine. Whether they came over in the same shipment, there numbers only 11 apart.

So you're B. Hickmott? Nice to hear from you. Thank you very much for your Field Guide contributions. They did a lot to illuminate the early history of Orange's.
