Orange Overdrive head

Post by Remnest » Tue Jul 30, 2013 1:57 am

I am trying to figure out the Year or a close estimate of when this amp was made. I am almost sure it is an OD120 but id like to be sure. Thanks in advance!

What does it say on the back for a model? OR120M, OD120, etc.? It should be written there...

Hi Remnest. Welcome! :D

For dating you need the serial number on the amp chassis itself, not the one on the headbox.

Thanks for the welcoming.

The back panel says OD120. As for the serial number on the chassis, where exactly would i find that? Inside the head or would it be along the back as well?

The Amp head is in another state. My friend owns it and wants to sell it which is why i am helping identify the exact year/model so that we can figure out how much he should sell it for.

The serial number will be on the back as well. You know the model number because that's what's written on the back - OD120. What I would do as far as knowing what value it is, is have your friend look on eBay for similar amps and price it accordingly.

The reason we don't say "Oh it's worth $1200..." is because what it's worth in the sticks of Pennsylvania isn't what it will be worth in L.A. As far as similar amps to follow, honestly, whether it's an OR120, OD120, etc. isn't going to matter really - they're all in the same ballpark - more than likely mid-70's but you need to either read a tag inside the chassis if there's one there with a date or use the amp's serial number to get an idea on the Orange Field Guide website...

Can I raise a practical question at this point? Are we gonna do "Stonehenge" tomorrow?

1978 is a good year for these heads. Basically the last year of the vintage amps looking like this before the Series II cosmetics and subsequently the reissues in the 90's. I have an 80 watt from 1978 and it's awesome!

+ 1 mine too...
Hi Andy, do you remember, there are 120 items between your Orange 120 head and mine. Yours is a little more vintage than mine ! Great sound anyway... :) Mike.
