I would recommend going here and seeing if you can find it:

http://users.telenet.be/orangefg/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Pictures always help us ID an amp FYI

From...
http://users.telenet.be/orangefg/dating_page.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
... it looks like '79.

To post pics you have to upload them to an online host such as photobucket. You can then link to them there either using the 'Img' tab you get on the page when posting on this forum or by linking the 'img' address option from the picture hosting site. Get it right and the pic will appear in your post.

Try not to make pics too big though, either for the page in pixel dimensions or in terms of file size. On a normal computer monitor you'll not notice much increase at all in picture quality for jpeg file pics above a few tens of kilobites so posting pics of 500+ megabites (which you do see now and again) is totally pointless...

Or simply use the "Upload Attachment" feature at the bottom of the screen when you create a new thread or reply to an existing one... 8)

Yep definitely 1979, they only made the Super Bass for one year. I have one too, serial number 16384.

Coincidentally S/N 16275, just two different from yours, is for sale on ebay at the moment.

Mine is serial number: 016200 and she is amazing.

So we know that at least 184 of these superb amps were made back in 1979 :)

S/N 016275 is the amp from Kent (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ORANGE-BASS-AMP-7 ... 1e5c0dc47e" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).

This was bought, cleaned up and then sold again by someone from Toronto.

There is another SB 112 on sale on an Italian website: http://www.hendrixguitars.com/Am3940.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;, if you check out (besides the missing back panel) it has a different power plug.

Few pictures of my baby:

Nice Superbass! All the original knobs and knob covers - sweet. Mine has all the original knobs but 3 covers missing.

Re: Number of Orange Super Basses made in 1979 - I don't think that all the serial numbers between 16200 and 16384 need necessarily be Super Basses. So maybe far fewer were made. Or maybe not. Anybody know how many were really made?

Well spotted on the Kent Super Bass being bought up and resold. I think the original buyer did well, it looked like an easy fix to me, I wanted to buy it myself for a spare or even to run a 2 head rig, but I was skint at the time.

The circuitry of the Super Bass is similar to the OR120s with some notable differences, some of the preamp anode/cathode resistors are totally different, giving a different gain structure, also the feedback resistor is different. Also the coupling caps between stages are 0.1uf rather than 0.068uf, so as to pass more bass presumably.

My Super Bass was broken when I got it so in repairing it I changed the resistors to the same values as the OR120 (as the amp had been badly repaired before and I thought they had been modified in error). Somewhere on this forum somebody took some really high resolution pics of a Hustler Bass Combo I think that showed that the resistor values on my head were actually standard! One of these days I'm going to try to do a proper schematic for this amp.

Don't know, but I'd suspect probably just a smallish handful were ever made in fact. Like the Series 2 Overdrive it is one of the amps I've only very occasionally seen mentioned on the forum - I've certainly never seen either model in the flesh myself. Both were only made for a very short period (few months) before Orange shut shop near the end of the '70s. Funny though how even right near the end Orange were busy with new designs!

I own a Super-Bass since 1979 with the serial No. 016013. It`s in excellent condition, only the Valves have been changed. Even the Vinyl-Hood is original. I have 2 4x12 Cabinets with it.

Welcome to the forum Troubadix20! :D

Good for you. Nice amp.

We have a small tradition here though. Post pictures or its a Marshall! (Not that their Superbass is so shoddy, but still...) :wink:

I'm sure it is the real thing! See my first post on this thread for how to post pics. Love to see it!
