Does anyone know how to tell the date of a 70's OR120 with a serial number of 10120? Thanks for any help!

Hi fastlane1984. Sorry to have to welcome you with a no, but basically no, the Orange serial numbers were a fairly random mess!!! Not much use at all for accurately dating the amps. You'll be right enough on the '70s bit though...

Of slightly more use are photos if you are able to post them here.

How is the amp? Working / maybe / not sure?

Hope we can maybe help a bit more if you've got any other ?'s.

Andy.

Pictures are a must when dating Oranges prior to 1978.

There are no serial number lists that are accurate...

Thanks Andy and Bclaire for your help! I appreciate you guys helping out a new guy. I am pretty new to the world of Orange. I have always been a Marshall guy but have always been intrigued by the allure of Orange.

I don't want to get in trouble by violating the no selling/buying rules of the forum, so I am not sure how to respond to Andy's question about pics. I am really excited to get an Orange and the one I was trying to get the date for was on e***.

Bclaire: is it ok to link to an ebay page, or is that considered against the rules? What advice would you give to someone looking to get into Orange? Thanks again!

Sure... post the link or post the image of the amp alone and we'll look at it for you. Dating an amp isn't technically buying or selling anything through the forum- it's asking for advice.

When I see something cool or rare on ebay that's Orange, I often post a link...

Billy, why do we even have this serial # forum?
A big sign saying "Noone knows" would do it.

I say change it to an Off Topic forum. <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

Looks like a late 1970's or120. I've owned a few and I've noticed that around 1975-76 the power on light switched from a big bulb to a smaller LED light like the one in the pictures. The only way to really date the amp would be to take out the chassis and look at the date codes on the big caps on the board. Thats if they havent been replaced. Hope this helps.

All Orange amps have printed ciuit boards. I think only some of the very early (prototype) Orange Matamp amps were PTP hand wired. Also some of the Orange Reverb units from the early 1970's were hand wired. I've never seen a ptp Orange amp. For more orange info check out the Orange amps feild guide here http://www.orangefg.com/

Yep- that's a 70's Orange. Nice amp, I bet, but it's gonna be loud as anything since it's a non-master amp.

I asked.... and so far it hasn't happened. I'll email Jason and request it again.

I want to have an addition called the "Crush Cafe" for off-topic posts and as a gathering place for the Crush amp kids who tend to have wackier questions...

The Orange 120s were all valve amps, not transistor. (I think by 'valvestate' you maybe meant 'hybrid' = a bit of both).
