I bought an orange amp 3 years ago in a flee market for £70 i want to know if i should bother getting it fixed so its age and value is important.

it is an Orange 120 slave amp 0A 3286

on the back it says

MODEL ORSL20
SERIAL No 10510

I can send photos if someone can help - my email is [email protected]

thanks,

Chris

Lucky you, abensie.
Well it's not so much use on it's own, but you could use it, (with a suitable speaker cab), to further amplify any other amp that has a suitable signal level output.
It would need checked over by good valve amp technician for both safety and reliability reasons, but (depending on condition) this is likely to be worthwhile. We discussed them here recently:

thanks for the reply - how do i post a picture on here?

so i used to use it just running my effects pedals straight into it. It was pretty loud although it didnlt sound like 120watts! But its ok to use them like this until i can afford a pre-amp? Dont effects pedals work as pre-amps? Or could this be the reason the transformer burnt out?

Nice Slave! Unfortunatly somone added two xlr inputs on the front<img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> This takes away from the value. I remember one just like yours sold on ebay UK about 2 months ago. It was in unmoded condition and I think it sold for somewhere around 600-900 pounds. So you got a great deal! Is the front of the amp plexi or metal panel? Since the amp is a big pix only amp it dates to around 1971-1973. Hope this helps.

i'm pretty sure its a plexi front. To be honest i'm not so worried about the price in terms of what i can sell it for - i just wanted to know whether it was worth the £50 to fix it and i definately think it is! I'd like to meet the prat who stuck those imputs on the front - makes my blood boil, but then again i probably would have had to pay 10 times as much so not too grumpy about that.

The other thing i was really interested in is the signal level needed to drive it. I want to know whether i can just run my RAT distortion pedal straight into it - i have a VOX212 (2*12") cab on its way to me but cant afford a decent pre-amp as of yet.

Also some advice on what pre-amp i should look to getting, i was thinking about a VOX head (ac30/ac50) or maybe even one of the smaller vintage fenders? If i just run a crappy practice amp into it will the valves in the slave give it that retro sound??

sorry to be so dumb about all this lol.

thanks,

Chris
