i understand the old serial numbers didnt mean anything but what about the new ones? i think i read somewhere that the bit at the end is the date they were made, what do the other bits mean?

thanks, i just read all 8 pages of that and its really interesting... but the conclusion is that the first digits maybe just sequence? i suppose that because the amps are produced on larger scales now its harder to tell cos there arnt many people who are actually interested in what the serial number means.

this orange obsession is so contagious

well i went home and checked my RV50 head and the serial number is 1006 - it kinda sucks to think there are so many other people who have one, and thats just in the UK... this unfortunately puts me firmly in the 'jumping on the band wagon' category not the 'original fanatic' one!

I'm gonna quote myself here. =)
I asked Damon on Orange about Rockerverb quantities...

quote:

He said at Orange that out of 600 copies of Rockerverb heads in the world, only 20 was returned to them with some kind of malfunction, and with my copies that'll make 22.

This number could as well has increased in a months time, but I wouldn't guess drastic.
I figure that the 2 last digits in that four digit combination is for sequence.
For example, my first RV100H had serial# 1021-03-04 which means that this was the 21st amp built in March this year.
What the two first digits mean I don't know. But I sure would like to.

Your serial# on your RV50H is 1006-??-04, the 6th amp that month and this year.
You would like to have an as late built copy as possible due to that Damon told me that they had discovered something about that valve base that wasn't tight enough or something, and that my two earlier copies of the amp could as well have this problem.
Don't know when they started fixing this though.

mine is 1006-03-04 so same month as your problem one... what was the problem with yours again? mine works great. maybe its just a 100W thing.

as for the 10 at the beginning, maybe they just decided to start numbering at 1000?

Just because your were made the same month doesn't necessarily mean that yours will brake down as well. I was just unlucky, twice. =P
Damon said that "some" amps had this problem, not all.

Actually I'm not sure exactly what was wrong with my two amps. I don't even know if I will ever be.

They sure could.
Gibson start their serials every other day on 500 even though they didn't make 500 instruments the day before. So why wouldn't Orange start at 1000 like you say. It's just as illogical.
But on the other hand, my serial# for my new amp is 1174-09-04.
I really don't think that they haven't made more than 168 amps since march.

it would be interesting to know how many they make each day/week/month etc... to know just how common these amps are or are not

I've got 1053-04-04 and 1100-06-04. (Yeah, bought a backup...) Looks like there is a definate succession to our serial numbers and dates.

So I'd say they started at 1000 and have been adding to it sequentialy ever since... just including the month and year that it was made. However, if this were the case, then sambulance would have build number 6!

Could be. But as I said I really think they must have made more than 168 amps from March to September.

Well considering that my serial numbers are for the RV50C, Sambulance's represent a RV50H, and yours represent the RV100H... I think we're talking about way more amps than 168. I bet each model have their own run from 1000.

Indeed... they are lighter.

I actually went through a similar situation to what Orphin experienced. My original RV50C had some issues... so I contacted Orange USA. They requested that I send the amp straight to them at their expense. Meanwhile, I needed an amp for gigs, so I bought another. Didn't miss a beat.

Orange USA was incredible! After diagnosing the situation they sent a brand new RV50C out to me. So now I've got two of 'em. I just plan to keep one for a short while and then pipe it off on EBay for hopefully more than the original cost.

So now I guess my signature should state "I'm the only one in the world that has owned three Rockerverb 50 Combos", eh Orphin?
