I mean that if you have had it plugged in and switched on in the last few days the power supply capacitors may still be charged up with several hundred volts, just waiting to throw you across the room! Some amps will have 'bleeder' resistors across these capacitors to bleed off these voltages. Others won't. If you are not sure then assume your amp could shock you if you touch the wrong bits inside. I think that if you have a standby switch, when switching off the power while just leaving the standby in play mode with speaker attached usually helps drain these voltages quicker. I'm not going to put an exact time on it though as it will vary a lot - minutes, hours, days...
(By the way, NEVER power up a valve amp without having a speaker attached as this will quickly destroy the expensive output transformer in your amp. If you knew this already, forgive my mentioning it, but it's a common and costly mistake!)

thanks

I know for head without speaker... I can't remember all people who explode their amp with this kind of mistake.

I'm gonna bring my amp to my favourite tube doctor...

about the serial number. I don't know the way I should read it but I suppose my hed is older than your? because the serial number on mine is higher...

So my head is probably from 79?
what do you think?

I think yours will be a bit younger then mine. I don't know by how much. Probably just a few months.
Hope that the tube doctor finds the patient healthy!

Good, glad it works well. Interesting though - your Series II Overdrive is actually a few months older then my 'older model' Overdrive, so there was obviously an overlap period when both were put out. Thanks for that info.
Did you send any details of your amp to Geert? He'd be interested I'm sure. And it would be nice if you were able to post pics of it here too.

Well, I can't speak for him, but I'm sure that he would appreciate better pictures, and the date and serial numbers. If he had any more ?'s he could get back to you. You could point him to this thread,
http://www.orangeamps.com/forum/topic.a ... IC_ID=1306
and tell him we sent you!

He is hopefully still at:
[email protected]
