can i put any other effect on the send and return way of the echo

The effects loop on older Oranges is pretty useless- kind of a tone drain- it was the first effects loop in an amp and it was really designed for Orange reverb and Echoplex-type of echo effects- not anything modern. You're better off using an effect into the front of the amp IMHO.
