I just recently got an AD30tc and think my Marshall 4x12 (240 watts)may be a bit too much for it. I'm thinking about getting either an Orange 2x12 (120 watts) or an old Marshall 4x10 (140 watts). I'm really interested in using 10"'s with it (quicker attack, etc.), but I would have to buy one unheard (ebay). Any thoughts?

Did you get the head alone or the combo?

If you got the combo, I'd say 2X12 Orange. If you got the head, I'd say 4X12 is the way to go. I was never a big fan of the sound of those Marshall 4X10 cabs- I always thought they were pretty cheaply built and sounded like they could fall apart at any moment. But that's just me- I'm sure other people like them I suppose. Still, when's the last time you saw an artist using one? I never have...

The 2X12 Orange is a good sounding cab as well if you have the head- I particularly like the sound of Vintage 30's in cabs- and they're a more efficient speaker as well as opposed to the Marshall cabs.

If you DID go with the Marshall 4X10, I'd recommend swapping out the speakers for Celestion Vintage 30's 10 inch speakers...

ok, well, does anybody think that a 4x12 (specifically an orange) would be too much for an ad30tc?

I've got the head. Would 240 watts not be a bit of a misamatch for a 30-watt amp? Does that matter?

doesn't matter a bit. You'd be in great shape with an Orange 4X12...
