Where to buy replacement screws for 1970s OR head chassis?

Post by Delicieuxz » Fri May 24, 2019 1:41 am

All 4 screws for my 1978 OR-80 head have some rust on them, and two of them have become stripped. Is there a place that sells replacement screws?

Basically you just need to find out what diameter and thread pitch they have. If some are stripped, I’d expect the nut they screw into is stripped as well. May be repairable with a tap if so. But as mentioned a good hardware store should get you sorted. Bring the screw with you.

I'm pretty sure that they are 1" M6 cheesehead screws.

I will pull one out later (assuming that they are the same as my 72 and 73 ORs.

The screws are actually 0BA this is British association screw sizes that were used in lots of British equipment. They should be available on the bay or somewhere.

I thought that and offered some 0BA screws up and they did not fit. I had some Marshall Pozis from a JMP head handy and they fitted easily. This was on a 14xxx serial chassis.

I hope the nut threads are OK. I found that if I put the screws back into the holes they came out of, rather than swapping them around, they grab a lot better.

The screws themselves are very rusted, so maybe that made their threads a lot weaker. I hope that the nut threads aren't rusted.

I've just found new chassis screw.

It is indeed 0BA, in fact the ones on my old Marshall (often listed as M6) are the same thread!
