Orange CR60C crackly sounds when using gain channel only.

Hello everyone,
I just got this amp, and love the clean tones. I am struggling with these artifacts on the gain channel when the gain is cranked above 4. I am fully aware of the natural looseness and crunchiness of the Orange sound, but this sounds like a moving whispy crackle, present whether i play with force or lightly. The issue is masked with the gain cranked almost all the way up, but mid level gains are driving me nuts. I tried the amp with a different cabinet, and that sound is still there. the overtone is not natural to my ears, and it has the same pattern to it when sustaining chords. I do not tend to hear with single note lines. Could my amp have a problem? It was bought used.
