Orange Crush 35RT Replace Speaker 8Ohms

Post by ermonski » Sun Dec 02, 2018 7:43 am

Hello folks.

I discovered that the stock speaker is rated at 4 ohms

Is it safe for the amp and the circuitry of my Orange Crush 35RT to replace it with an 8 ohm Jensen MOD or Celestion alnico gold speaker?

Thank you!

It is safe.

With solid state amp, the amp simply want to see a minimum ohms rating, which I assume is 4 ohms in this case.

However, as you increase ohms, you lose power. How much is difficult tell exactly and depends on the design of the actual amp, but it's usually assumed that you'll lose 1/2 the power when you double the ohms. So your 35w with 4 ohms woukd become roughly 17.5w with an 8 ohms speaker.

Sorry for the late reply but thank you for this!

However, would a speaker out mod be preferable? Since I have a 1x12 lying around
