Orange AD30R - Reverb crackle

Hi guys,

My first post here so please go easy on me!

I have an Orange AD30R combo which has a continuous popping 'crackle' noise which is mostly noticeable at higher volumes.

I've managed to narrow it down to the reverb valve. These amps have single valve reverb and when I remove the valve from the circuit, the crackle is completely gone and the amp runs quiet and sounds great.

The noise still happens with the reverb level control on zero.
The noise still happens with the reverb tank disconnected.
The noise still happens with every single 12ax7 and 12at7 I throw at it.
All valve bases and pots have been serviced and cleaned.
The valve base pins have all been re-soldered.

Is this just something that us AD30R owners have to put up with when a valve has 'single valve reverb', or do you think there is a faulty component around the reverb circuit?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

There's something faulty in the reverb circuit.

First thing would be pull the reverb tube and clean the socket for oxidation. Then a good tube and see if that does it.

I know it's been done already, but I would do it again.

You’ve done a lot of the right things. Check the reverb transformer connections? All connections really, check all solder joints? Loose terminal in the socket? Really everything you’ve done is all that can be suggested. Would have to have the amp on the bench to trace it, possibly with an oscilloscope.
