Different EL84 retainers

G'Day!

Over the past few months I've noticed more and more retainer rattle on my AD30TC, most notable at higher frequency/notes just at the breakup point of the signal or during sustain.

I have tried different tubes, tightening everything and anything, different cabs (which worked), and finally removing the amp from the combo (which also worked).

Does anyone have ideas about what this product would do to tube life?

Personally, I wound not put something like that over those EL84s.

Does the GZ34 have a spring retainer? Those like to rattle and it can be fixed with one of these:

I’ve never heard the wire retainers rattle noticeably. If they’re rattling, try bending them slightly to tighten them up.
