Limited space cause issues?

Post by lukeswarm1 » Sat Sep 02, 2017 8:15 pm

Hi

I have recently had to move my studio/man cave/office furniture around and wanted to know if I could put my orange dual dark 50 on a shelf. My concern is cooling as the amp is top and back cooled am I right that having it pushed back against the back of a wall unit is bad? It will be about 3 inch clearance but very little air flow. As for the top it would be directly under the shelf so only about an inch of clearance so what I was going to do is route out a hole in the shelf to let the heat out the top.

Is this madness?

Three inch clearance should be ok....

You could always drill a bunch of holes (20 or so) throughout the faceplate. Then it could vent from the front.

It should be ok. Feel the face panel. If it gets notably hotter than it does when the amp is out in the open, it's not getting enough ventilation.

Unless you're playing the amp with the volume set very high, it's unlikely that you'll have any issues.

Well, hot air rises.

I think that once hot enough, with the spaces you mentioned, it will create the necessary air flow to prevent the valves from over heating.
