Micro Dark Terror FX Noise

Post by boyd98 » Fri Jul 14, 2017 5:29 pm

I bought a new micro dark terror about 6 months ago.

The FX loop has noise.

I can take Cable A and jumper NO NOISE
I can take Cable B and jumper NO NOISE
If I put any of my 3 pedals in between cable A and cable B i get noise.

If it put the same pedals in the front of the amp, NO NOISE, so I don't think it's my pedals.

Morely Volume Pedal, Looper, Zoom MultiStomp

Anyone have suggestions?

Thx!

Boyd

My first impression is, none of those pedals are supposed to go through an effects loop.

I agree with Billy. If you're not getting noise with just the cables jumpered , it's not the amp.

+ 1

If the FX loop was defective, the noise would be introduced with a jumper cable.

Thx for the quick response.

After redoing my pedal pedalboard and investigating more....

Can you help me understand -

Amp on, nothing plugged into input - NO NOISE
Amp on, any guitar (humbucker, noiseless single) plugged in, NOISE
If I put a Boss tuner in the signal chain and cut the input. NO NOISE

This leads me to believe I'm picking up radio, wifi, noise in the AIR.

This is problem 1; Not sure how to address. Would you put a "Hum debugger" pedal in the line?

Problem 2.
FX Loop noise.
I Confirmed it's not the amp and it's not the pedals (tested with battery).
I'm picking up NOISE from my Voodoo Pedal Plus 2 power supply.
I can reduce the NOISE by putting a decimator 2 at the end of my FX chain.

======
So I think my solution is to get another noise filter for the front of my chain.

Was researching the HUM-X AC Plugin, but don't think that's necesssary since the amp is quiet without an input signal; what do you thinK?

You might have a ground loop somewhere.

Try plugging your rig in a different room, every single plug in separate wall plug if possible.

It is possible that your house electrical wiring isn't up to scratch - it happens more often than we think.

Try separating and straightening all you guitar and power cable. Mine can introduce a lot of noise if all jumbled together with my pedal board on.

I find that the Micro Dark loop is very susceptible to pedal noise. For example, I plug in up to six Boss pedals in the loop and there is plenty of white noise/hiss. Plug the same pedals into the front, no noise. Reduce the amount of pedals in the loop and noise goes away or is reduced. My belief is the noise is the cumulative effect of the buffers combined with a sensitive loop. Normally two or three pedals don't give me any noise but it varies depending on numbers and brands. IMO there is nothing inherently wrong with the amp but the noise is a result of a combination of factors.
