Orange TH30 head... ohm my god, I'm confused!

Hello everyone! Long time, unregistered reader here... I've finally decided to register and I have an urgent question.

I'm totally confused with Orange TH30 ohms. As we all know TH30 has:

-1x16 ohm output
-2x8 ohm output

So far I've been using single PPC112 (so 16ohm cab into 16ohm amp's output), but I'm about getting a second PPC112. How do I connect that?

A) daisy chain two PPC112s so I get total load 8ohm (parallel) ---> connect into single 8 ohm amp's output
or
B) link each PPC112 into separate 8 ohm amp's outputs ---> two outputs will run at the same time, each with PPC112.

I run 2 PPC-112s and connect them to the 8 Ohm outputs. Daisy chaining will work also.

Yes, they are both correct. The only real difference is where the cabs are linked in parallel. Daisy chaining the link is at the first cab, running separately the link is at the (parallel linked) 8 ohm outputs on the back of the amp.
Either way the amp 'sees' the same electrical impedance load.

As said above either way works. I believe that the common advice is to connect to both 8 ohm outputs on the amp if at all possible. If you do this, and one cable fails you still have a load connected to the amp. Doing it the other way there is a potential that a cable failure or a speaker failure would leave you with no load connected (which is bad).

You shouldn't really worry though, as you have effectively been taking that risk every time you have connected just the one cab

Hi,

You can for sure plug both PPC112 straigth into the 8 Ohm amp Outputs (your assumption B)
This is what I do with my OR15 (PPC12 + PPC212 each to an 8 Ohm output), and this is what is written in the user manual.
Indeed : Two 16 Ohms cab in parallel = 8 Ohms

But I doubt you can daisy chain two PPC112s and connect them into a single 8 ohm amp's output.
As : Two 16 Ohms cabs in series = 32 Ohm

I am not 100% sure of the above assuption... Anyone else??

Daisy chaining two PPC112's puts them in parallel, not series. Same as using both 8 ohm outputs, equals 8 ohm load.

Thanks for your answer ! You are totally right...
On Orange cabs (at least PPC112 and PPC212) the two jacks are wired in parallel, not series as I had mistakenely assumed.

So, I have a question for my own gears, very similar to the above questions... Can I plug my micro terror (it has only one 8 Ohm output) into a 16 ohm PPC112 daisy chained with a 16 ohm PPC212 ?
That would give :
Micro Terror single 8 ohm output => 16 ohm PPC112 cab => 16 ohm PPC212 cab.

Would it work and be safe ? Will the Micro Terror supply enough power for both cabs ?
