Just got a TT Hardwired. I've played it for about 2 hours. Plugged into USA 110v. Then decided to get a gut shot, so pulled the bottom and the build tag has 240v written on it. The back of the amp reads 230v.
The HT fuse itself is marked T315mAL250v (in the fuse holder that reads T250mA...)
The fuse under the mains plug is marked T500mAL250v (where chassis reads 220/230-240V: T500mAH 100/120V: T1A H.
The Power Transformer only lists either 120v or 100v under the Primary column...
I have photos but photobucket is not playing nice and I can't attach them as files (probably too large, is my guess, tried making them smaller, to no avail...)
So... what exactly is going on here?
And... the amp sounds fine. One would assume that if it IS a 240v amp, running it on 110 would sound like crap.
Just opened the amp again... the wires going to the power socket are yellow, brown, and blue...
Thanks.

Re: Confused with TTHW Voltage Markings
The amp is probably just labelled wrong, especially if you see 100/120V primary taps marked on the PT. If it were running on a 240V primary, I doubt the amp would even make sound. Most tube heaters wouldn't work properly at half voltage. If it did make sound, the tubes would be in cutoff and the amp would sound like a transistor radio being played through a noise gate.
If you want to confirm, you can measure the heater voltage, or the B+ on the HT rail. The schematic I've seen says you should get about 325V at the OT CT and plates. Obviously the heaters should be 6.3VAC.

Re: Confused with TTHW Voltage Markings
The amp was probably set up for 240 volts at the factory and converted to 120 afterwards. Transformers labeled 120 means nothing. All modern Orange transformers are that way.
The fuses are incorrect though. The HT fuse should be 250 ma for either 120 or 240 volts. The mains fuse should be 1 amp for 120 volts and 500 ma for 240 volts.

I didn't realize some links were forbidden. Is there a list of taboo links somewhere?bclaire wrote:

Take a look at how he re-edited his post to add spam. He's gone.Sooner wrote:I didn't realize some links were forbidden. Is there a list of taboo links somewhere?bclaire wrote:
