Rocker 30C indicator bulb Dimming? New Content re:8 ohm

Post by Gordy G » Mon Jan 16, 2017 8:31 pm

I've been posting about a possible speaker problem with my Rocker, but a new "problem" showed itself at last nights gig.
At the end of the 1st set,as i switched into standby & noticed the Bulb, was very dim, hardly visible, coincidentally the Amp had started to sound "off" towards the end of the set,so i'm suspecting my speaker "problem" may be something to do with the Amp ouput & this bulb issue, but i know zilch about valve amp circuits,so can anyone offer any advice.
If it helps i also feel the 8ohm output sounds better than the 16ohm out? :?
Cheers,Graham.

The indicator jewel light is on the same circuit as the valve heaters, straight from the power transformer.

It could be an issue with the valve heaters connector, the transformer, or still be something unrelated to that particular circuit. It's possible, though unlikely, that a failing valve could short the heater circuit.

Either way, it's tech time really.

Thanks,i do know a very competent audio engineer, can you tell me if it's possible to obtain a circuit diagram,he may not need it,but it may make the repair a bit quicker.
Cheers,Graham.

One of our forum members here (Jondog) drew one, and that is the only one widely available on the Internet (Google R30 schematic). Otherwise, Orange distribute the schematic upon request by qualified technicians.

The bulb is on the AC voltage filament circuit of the phase inverter and power tubes.

I've amended the title to include the following.
I used the Rocker at practice yesterday(for over 3 hours continuous),but i used the 8 ohm tap with a different speaker cab(1 x 12") & i didn't get the dimming light problem,is it possible that the dimming could only occur on the 16ohm tap ?,if so could this help to diagnose the fault?.

It's possible - it's also possible the 16ohm speaker cab could be the fault?

It could be an intermittent fault too, and they can be difficult to trace.
