Was it my Terror Bass?

Post by ou7shined » Tue Nov 29, 2016 1:14 pm

I have a barely used TB500.
I've only ever used it a band practice, once a week for 2 months and the volume knob had never been past 9 o'clock (gain never past 1 o'clock) into a 4ohm 210. I have always been ultra careful to pre-heat the tubes before playing.

On Saturday I gigged it for the first time. It was going into the house 4ohm 8X10 the sound guy took the DI directly out of my TB. I turned the volume up a tiny bit more than usual but not past 10 o'clock on the dial. The first song went well and I was loving the fuller sound of the 8X10 but halfway into the second tune the bass started cutting in and out. I thought it was a cable problem and quickly switched to a new one but it didn't help. The FOH sound was still good (but I couldn't hear it) so we knew the DI signal was uninterrupted. Encouraged that the foh was ok, I soldiered on through the rest of the set like this but I couldn't enjoy it. A band went in after us and the cab was fine.

Is it possible for the speaker stage to go down in a TB500 and the DI stage remain ok?

Hi. Sorry I didn't think I got any replies to this.

Yes I've used it several times at rehearsals.

And I assume that each time you have used it since the sound was fine?

That's a tough one. Intermittent problems are difficult to track done. It could have been the speaker cable.... 8t could have been your amp.... It could have been a dodgy jack input in the cab.....

Yep everything is fine.
I used my own speakon cable that night. The same one I've used ever since with no problems.
The only thing I can't check is if the DI is working.
