Rockerverb 50 buzzing/crackling noise

A weird buzzing/crackling sound comes in for about 30 seconds, then it goes away and comes back. Any idea what might be the problem? When I touch the knobs on the amp, it sometimes makes a thumping-like noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
