clicking noise after valve change

Post by jasondunringill » Mon Sep 01, 2014 10:52 pm

Hi guys, gave a set of valves I'd briefly run in my dual terror (couple of hours max, no issues) to a friend for his Vox AC30, he's put them in but is apparently now getting a rhythmic clicking noise from the amp. I've not heard it myself, only going by a message he sent, any Ideas what the issue could be, the tubes have been safely stored since I took them out a few months ago, they should be ok so I said I would consult the experts!

In all seriousness, valves/ tubes don't click. Something external must be... like a watch.

I'll get back to him and make sure he's not left his metronome on! He did seem sure it was something in the amp but he can be a numpty at times. Great musician though. . . .

I had a buddy who could never learn that the clicking noise in his amp was because he kept leaving his iphone on top of his amp. That will cause some super-weird clicking in tube amps.

Failing valves can demonstrate rhythmic arcing that can sound like clicking though.
Sometimes when this is happening you can actually see the flashing in the valves coinciding with the clicking noises.
