Powering Orange Mini Crush with 12v batteries

Hello guys! i just got this wonderful little piece of joy and i would like to know how's your experience with 9v batteries. I noticed that a 12v power supply can be connected to it thus giving it a better sound quality. Can i use, say, a few AA batteries to match 12 volts and use it to power the amp? Is there any alternative to the 12v batteries?
