Question about Controls on the Jim Root #4 and OR15 ...

Warning ... an opinion and question from a non-professional musician or amp tech ...
I recently played both amps for a few days each (stock tubes) ... I was a little surprised at how the tone and gain controls operated ... I really had a hard time dialing in the sound I wanted ... It also seemed that the tone and gain increased very slowly while rotating the knobs (as compared to the TH30 or Dark Terror). It's been a while (2 years) since I played a Rockerverb, but is that how they are generally set up?
After playing both of these amps I decided to stay with my Dark Terror ... Just to easy to operate ...
