Just got in from a frustrating recording session.
My trusty OR 120 with Les Paul combination went
downhill right before my eyes/ears. I had to pack
it in early. I usually get a killer clean tone,
but by the end of six hours the amp was distorting
at relatively low levels (9 o'clock). High end was
also disintegrating before me. Could it be as
simple as tubes on their last legs? Can they die out
that abruptly? If so, would it be the power or
preamp tubes? Thanks for any help.
Bad tubes?

Could very well be tubes.... always helps to carry a spare set with you.
The thing to remember with tubes is that they will wear out eventually, and being preemptive is a good thing. I knew a guy (Dave Amato in REO now) who used to religiously retube his Marshall Superleads once a year and he never had any of the reliability issues that some did with older Marshall heads- I bought them from him and I did the same thing- never ever had a problem.
