RECTIFIERS: Do they affect tone?

Another question for you audiophiles

I just had the rectifier in my AD30TC changed because it blew out at a performance. The amp sounds good, but now the highs are very brittle when I push the amp hard no matter how I EQ the amp or my pedals. The TECH put in a Sovtek.

Do rectifier's affect tone or am I barking up the wrong tree if I think upgrading to a better rectifier will help things.
