FINALLY PICKED THIS UP!
the serial is roughly 3000 something.
I have some info on the speakers
the numbers on the drivers are
10BPGA16A
67 7330
I think it's an Eminence but I'm trying to figure out more about them!

Re: 1971 Orange 8x10 power handling?
The serial number indicates Eminence (67), manufactured in the 30th week of 1973 to the best of my knowledge. That should solidly date the cab as a 1973 if they are original to the cab. I am pretty sure that the serial number has little significance on old Orange cabs.nickdooley wrote:...I have some info on the speakers

I guess this might constitute as raising this thread back from the grave, but I've just acquired a mid-3000 serial number Orange 8x10 from a very cool musician up north. This might be the same one, actually. So just to confirm so I've got no worries about it:
>will a 100-watt head work as long as it's 8 ohms or will it overpower the speakers? There's a U-1101 I might snag to put on top of this thing but I'm not too sure until I get the wattage figured out.
>is there any surefire way to clean the old cane grill cloth or are the stains there till the end of time?
cheers to whoever may reply to this

Re: 1971 Orange 8x10 power handling?
It's very hard to say - Eminence doesn't really have any records or specs for those older speakers (see here: http://www.eminence.com/identifying-an- ... e-speaker/)
If I had to guess, my guess would be 30 watt speakers times eight for a 240 watt power handling. But that said, these are really old speakers. I'd be ready to replace them, and if it was me, I just might in general so I know I have fresh speakers.
The 1973 Orange catalog has the 8x10 pictured in the infamous field shot from the back cover but there is no description of the cab in the catalog anywhere.
Be careful with the grillcloth - the baffle board behind will bleed black into the grillcloth if it gets wet. (ask me how I know... ) I would try a damp cloth over it all first...
