Terror Bass died with no explanation!

I should add that my TB500 was totally reliable while I had it, and sounded amazing. I traded it in when my bass-playing role in a band dissolved, as did the band itself .

The amp itself was crazy good, i just have to have it replaced after only an hour of use... lol

I have had 2 problems with the terror bass,
all down to components breaking loose because
of the vibrations and lack of fixings/glue on larger
components which are prone to vibrations.
large filter caps and the side mounted mains ceramic cap are the cause
of me having to repair the amp. also having to secure
the largest of components was also an issue which they have
missed out.
this is a great little amp but I have noticed a few design flaws not on the board itself but the way it has been manufactured and the mechanics of the thing.

Hi Dave. Welcome to the forum!

That would be very good feedback to pass on to Orange themselves. I don't know where you are (you could put that up in your forum profile) but often phoning them works better than e-mail. Or phone to give them a heads up on an e-mail.

Personally while I think that bass amps should of course be rugged enough to sit on bass cabs, with valve ones I tend to either keep them separate or else put a layer of AstroTurf under the amp. (The AstroTurf doormats are perfect for this!) This really does help cut down on amp vibrations and helps valve life - quite a lot in my experience! Won't make so much difference with only preamp valves to worry about I guess but if you are finding that caps etc are shaking loose, yeah I'd be telling Orange!

I did contact orange on this matter
and the place were I purchased the amp.
all they had to say was how long it would take
to get repaired and did not seem interested
in why it happened.
I know foam helps these things but this should
not be needed when designing a bass amp or any other amp
unless your wanting to stop microphonic ring and vibrations
through the output valves when say recording
or at larger shows. saying this it is often the case to
rack the heads and pedals with the tech controlling it side stage.
but then would you be buying this amp if you have actech and crew,
more like the ad200b heads would be racked up instead.

I am not saying this head Is bad it just needs that bit of support inside that
I have seen many bass heads use since going straight to pcb mounting instead of PTP.
