bass terror FX loop?

Post by iodas » Tue Feb 09, 2010 12:28 am

I just got a Bass Terror a couple of weeks ago and finally got around to experimenting with the effect loop.
I noticed that what ever I plug it to the loop makes the amp very distorted. tried both my tech 21 VT bass peddle and my peterson tuner either of theses make the bass terror sound very bad. I'm also using the power supplies with both boxes. am I doing something wrong with the effect loop? this is my first amp that has a loop so I'm not sure. I really love the sound of the Bass Terror without any effects any way but would really like to hook up the tuner if possible.

Tuners NEVER go in effects loops.

Hey man. Im on my second Terror Bass and I'm having the same problem.

I also have a VT Bass and its no longer running off battery power since being plugged into my First Terror Bass.

I thought it may have shorted out so it hasnt been anywhere near my new one and still have the same problem.

Im unable to replicate the problem with my other amp (SWR)

Have used different leads, have all new batteries or the pedal is plugged into a power point. Have used other peoples pedals and leads.

Have shot orange an email, hoping for a reply back soon.

Glad its not all in my mind.

Hi,

I recently bought an Orange Terror Bass 500w and I have the same problem with the send-return.

Any effects pedal I usethrough the send-return on the side of my head produces a distorted sound (really bad), even with low gain (near zero) of the head or effects pedal.

This distortion is similar to the valves saturation but with a lower volume, so much confused and really annoying.

Instead, if I plug my bass with the effects pedal directly into the input of the head of the sound is great and if I increase the gain, the sound is still perfect.

Why does this happen?

Has my Terror Bass any problem with the send-return?

How can I solve this trouble?

Am I doing anything wrong?

The head is less than a month old and has not undergone any type of trauma.

I have the same problem with the effect loop, I think it's time for Orange to say something on this amp that seems really not well made...

From Orange answer e-mail:

The FX loop on the TB500 is running at +4 (professional level) and is really for use with rack equipment rather than pedals.

Most pedals would be better suited to the front end of the amp.

Best regards

From my tread in talkbass:

So there isn't any kind of problem with the Terror Bass' fx loop, it's simply made for line level (rack).

in relation to this, the DI is also line level not mic.

otherwise it has an extremely hot signal going through a live desk!

Really? I always run my TU2 as a buffer for my RV50 through the loop.

Shouldn't really be a problem IMO. The RV50 (Mk.1) loop seems to needs a buffer and the Boss one is decent.
