How to rackmount my RV50 head?

Post by jglover51 » Thu Apr 16, 2009 5:02 am

I'm wanting to place my RV50 head into a rackmount case, but I'd like to do so safely without drilling holes in the amp. I plan on removing the amp from it's outer shell so it will fit into the rack. Is there a recommended way of doing this?

I was thinking of placing the amp at the bottom of the rack (with proper padding underneath) and putting a small fan aiming in from the back. I plan on allowing at least 2 or 3 spaces between the amp and effects. I don't see how it would be any hotter in the rack w/o the shell than in the shell, but I dunno. I would keep the front and back of the rack off at all times except transport.

I'd probably buy the strongest rack shelf you can get your hands on, then drill the four holes that go from the sleeve to the chassis. put a piece of ply the size of the chassis on the shelf, and then run the bolts through the shelf, the wood and into the chassis - it's no different to mounting the chassis in a sleeve or combo.

I would probably put it at the bottom of the rack though!

I'd make one small observation.

Heat rises, so anything above a set of cooking valves will get er cooked. I'd go for FX precessors in the bottom and Amp chassis just above on a reinforced shelf. This might seem a triffle top heavy or not depending on how tall a rack you have. It would however make it hang better of a single side handle with all the weight nearer the middle. So thats two small observations then, Heat and weight. You can get vents panels for racks as well as fans already mounted if you look.
Here we go; three, four...
