i keep hearing this about the korean tt's fitted with jj tubes as stock. i've got a korean terror and the only markings on each say 'orange el84' or 'orange 12ax7'. no maker's name at all, let alone even where they're made. i'm just curious is all, cos i reckon the li'l monster's going to need a tube change in the new year and opinion on this forum seems to be in favour of the jj's as replacements.

My Korean TT did come with JJs in pre and power. I've left the EL84s in but have swapped out the pre's with a high gain Harma and a sovtek as I prefer the sound. It's good to have spares pre-amp tubes kicking around plus it allows you to try out different variations. I think it's hard to know what it will sound like unless you try it out yourself. My AD15 and the TT are both dual EL84 amps with 2x ECC83s in the pre-amp (AD15 has a GZ34 rectifier too) but I prefer them with different valves in, even though they can be set to produce some similar tones.

Only the first production (the first units of the korean make) were fitted with JJ.
My korean unit is fitted with orange brand tubes as well (selected chinese tubes).

Be careful. Both my TT's came stock with what at first glance appeared to be JJ EL84's. But after a month or so I pulled them out and compared them to real JJ and they are not the same. They do look similar, but are not JJ's. I suspect they are Chinese Shuguang EL84's. At least in my TT's. JJ's are in there now and they gave the amps more high end and more clarity. Although the stock EL84's didn't sound too bad. Preamp tubes were all Chinese.
