well the UPS guy delivered my OR50H this morning (sitting vertically, mind you..)
after opening the back and making sure all of the tubes were well-seated, and a day of test-driving it, i experienced a little discrepancy. over the course of today, i switched the head on four times (and off three times, obviously), and the first two times i had this problem:
-pwr on
-warmed up the tubes
-play on
..no sound
-turned knobs
-no sound for about 20 seconds
..strummed a few chords and the last one blasted the volume on.
from that point, the amp operated normally. this happened the first two times i turned it on, but seems to have stopped.
dunno what causes this .. tubes damaged in shipping? a loose connection?
the amp wasn't shipped from far but the box wasn't super safely packaged, either.
any ideas?
(i think i'm gonna retube/rebias anyway)

I would consider contacting the dealer and seeing if they can send you a replacement head. Let them figure out whether it's a bad tube, cold solder joint, etc. A new amp should play out of the box no matter what and it's the dealer's responsibility to make sure that that will be the case.

i would've liked the head to have been packaged a little better; all it had was eight duct-tape-covered 1"-thick foam corner protectors, so the amp is sorta suspended by all of its corners.
shipping companies are a different story.. i've received a lot of smashed up stuff from them in the past.
i think as long as it's packaged well by the factory/dealer, shipping will result in less damage, and the manufacturer can rest assured they did went the extra inch to ensure customer satisfaction.
with that said, i'm pleased with the amp's tone already, and in can't wait to retube/rebias.
does biasing void the warranty, or should i just send the head back for a replacement?

Not unless your tech really f**ks something up.
Since I'm assuming it's going to be a loose/bad/cold solder joint that's going to give you problems now until the day the amp dies, I'd suggest returning it for a new one or at least bringing it to an Orange authorized tech place or whatever.

I'd contact Orange. That is what they want. See sticky at top of the 'Tech' section:

Better hurry if you want a replacement as Orange will quit making them at the end of the month:
