Hi!
I have an Orange AD30HTC Head. Can I put a pre-amp or a "loud" effect-board together with my amplifier? I am afraid of destroying something, because the signal that I put in will be stronger and louder. Am I allowed to use something like that or will the tubes or something else maybe get damaged???

Have not seen an AD30THC yet but I see no reason why you couldn't
run any effect you wanted through it.
If your using instrument level effects simply run into the input.
Line level effects will work best through the effects loop.

It's an Orange- there are no effects loops.

Oranges are very high gain amps- I find that any kind of distortion pedal or effects thing is not going to boost the volume much if at all- it may color it a little but the heads are better at doing that than a pedal/preamp is. The twin channel amps are the answer to that- you can set channel two, hotter and louder, and accomplish what you want with the amp. I was always a little frustrated with my OR-80's because they were single channel and the distortion pedals I used really didn't boost the volume like they would do with a Marshall. Huge difference but it's the nature of Oranges that they're already putting out top sound and nothing really can boost them much. A little but not a lot. Billy

"Boost" is a term I want to explore further.
I'm the tech-half designer behind Austone Electronics.
I build a "boost" pedal that was desugned to be a signal
gain stage that you could tailor to your needs.
Is it "boost" or drive that you need?

See Austone Electronics site for more info or
contact me directly.

Hmm I think I need boost AND drive.
I thought of the sound "The Who" has.
So it must be a clear but powerful sound with not to much distortion.

Vintage John- You guys make great stuff and you have a good site I didn't know you worked with Austone.

I'm looking for a Pete Townshend type boost as well. I love that huge sound that he gets that is loud and overdriven but also articluate. If you could make that kind of boost I'm sure it would sell with the Texas Blues crowd too because a Stratocaster with a boost and a little compression is just heaven espically through my orange. I look foward to seeing what you can come up with.

I wanna dip my balls in it!!!!

Take a look at the seymore duncan web-site, they have produced an effects pedal that increses the output from your guitar into the amp by up to 25db. They claim it can make a single coil strat sound like it has the balls of a humbucker laiden Les Paul. It is NOT a gain stage though, just an output booster.
