KORTEZ said something in a post below that got me reminising.... I remember when Oranges were out of fashion- and then Guitar Player did a 10 low cost amps feature which mentioned the Orange heads and wham- they suddenly had a resurgance in popularity- the author of the article mentioned a source for some unsold heads, etc from the 70's that a friend of mine and I orchestrated to be bought by LaSalle Music in Boston with us each getting a head, etc for $350! Now, we're seeing the same kind of thing since Orange has better distribution and higher visibility- great for Orange but for those of us who had the Orange secret tone, the word's out! Oh well.... it's an Orange world after all. Billy

I've been into the orange tone for awhile, but it never really fit what I was doing bandwise at the time. Now with the twin channel, I get a bit more versatility, plus my style has changed over the years and now it fits right in! Plus they are a good value comparatively.

I got my first Orange head, a 1978 Orange 80 watt Overdrive BRAND-NEW and unsold in 1986 for with original Mullard tubes! Then I found a 4X12 cab for used..... not bad. Billy

Thats not so bad! I have that amp also and it's awesome. I'm working on getting a 4x12 though. I'd like to get a vintage one. Ofcourse a new one would be cool too. Right now i'm useing a Marshall [Thats like a bad word on this site i know] 4x12. I recenctly got a Graphic OR120 but i won't say what i paid for it. I will say alot more than these other posts. It does have Original Mullard tubes at least. Plus it's in great shape!

Hey gearnut I dont think i told you but i bought a early 70's Graphic OR120 a few weeks ago. I simply love it to death! It has a awesome clean tone and only distorts on about 2 o'clock. Ofcourse the pictures on the walls fall off and anything not bolted to the ground crashes also. So needless to say i put my Super Duper and Fulldrive 2 in front of it for overdrive. But it works out wonderfully. I got a sweet clean tone plus a little dirty tone on channel one of the Fulldrive and over the top with the boost channel. The bass response is AWESOME!! This thing is POWER!!! Brutal distortion with the pedals pushing the tubes into saturation. I would recommend the OR80 with out a doubt. I have some picts of it over on the Yahoo group. Check it out. I think i'm turning into an Orange Freak!!! So far i've got two and thinking about a 70's OR80 combo. Have i lost my mind? The OR120 is very different than the AD30TC. I love them both!! I just love Orange! Call me crazy.

just to make everyone groan a little heres how i got my orange. its a little complicated but it tickles me.
a friend called round one day saying he was selling his marshall stack. how much says i? £100 for a very early 20 watt head and matching 4x10 in perfect nick. sold the amp for £350 on ebay and was gonna keep the cab as it looked so sweet. the amp buyer from ebay wanted the matching cab badly so i thought what the hell and he offered a immaculate early 70's fender sunburst mustang. got the mustang and didnt like it. looked nice but it really is a student guitar. hmmmmmm theres a lovely orange or120 for sale in a music shop in my nearest city, i wondered if they would striaght swap the guitar for the amp cos i was desperate for an orange? the shop wanted £400 for the orange. yep they went for it so in real terms the amp came in on a nice deal and i love it. i also picked up an orange cab for £150 that some dood had kept in his barn for 7 years. all in i am still in pocket although i must add that that 20 watt marshall seems to be a bloody old one and is most probably worth a fortune but i am happy, the buyer is happy and we all got what we wanted. he he i have an orange!
i have two orange cabs, both with greenbacks. one sounds terrible and the other sings, and all the speakers in both are fine so i havent a clue why the difference is there.

also the resurgence of orange amps on england has a lot to do with noel gallagher from oasis using them in their early days. a lot of indie bands use them now. if you are in a band and you play an orange then you can bet your bottom dollar that people will notice the amp wether they play or not. easily the most attention grabbing amp i think. i just lie awake at night now wondering how many oranges there are lying in peoples garages unused and unloved, it is a tragedy and someone should set up a rescue centre for these neglected amps suffering in their loneliness, hell i bet it gets cold in some of those garages!

Sounds like an interresting chain of events. I bought mine from a guy in Orange CA. I thought that was quite ironic. He said he started collecting stuff years ago. I'm guessing he got the amp cheap. I dont care what he made. I got an Orange too! HE HE! It's to bad Orange cab's are so cheap over there. I guess thats why Fender,Gibson among others are cheap here. There made here and we got them coming out of our ears. BTW I heard Travis plays Orange too. That whole Brit POP thing does'nt hurt Orange popularity. Plus the whole stoner rock thing going on over here. There amps are just to darn cool. Sound bloody awesome too! [to coin a phaise]

Congrats on a sweet amp! An OR80 is definitely in my future, but it will have to wait a while. I bought a '53 fender tweed Pro (1x15) last weekend that is absolutley amazing. It looks like it's been thru a war, and needs some maintainence, but it sounds like a dream.

Cool! those tweed amps go for big bucks. I have very played on one. I can bet they sound mean. The ones i have seen on Ebay are mostly worn really well. One of the guitar players in The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion plays one. I seen it in Guitar Player. Plus he has one beat up guitar. Congrats on the amp! You truely are a gearnut. So am I!<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>

Hehe, I know it gets crazy. I've been eyeing this new modular preamp from Randall where you buy different sounding modules to plug into it (holds 4 at a time). They have it at musican's friend. I think my next purchase though will be the orange 4x12.

I got a good deal on the fender. It needs some work (I already had to re-tube), but I bought some NOS and it's kicking again. I love that thing.
