I just picked up a very good looking orange 12 channel mixer from the late seventies. But I can't power it up, because I don't have the external power supply ! Ah Ah Ah ! Does anyone know the kind of supply it is ? (Voltage...etc). I'm no tech, and feel a bit lost in front of this old silent lady. Help !

Yes this is the smallest one, black in an orange suitcase.
I really don't know how it sounds. No XLR on the rear panel, only Jacks (symetric or asymetric...I don't know yet).
Could you give me please an email adress, where I could contact Orange techs. Better than a phone number, because I need to search my words... I'm french. Sorry.

Some news: I opened the desk: There are 12 SYMETRIC jack inputs ! Nice ! I have to build a separate input box, with 4 XLR+ phantom power and everything will be fine.
My tech told me this morning, that he will put the power supply INSIDE the desk. This was impossible 30 years ago, because power supplies were too big and impilcated noises in the tracks...

Any info or good link about this table would be welcome.
I'd like to date the mixer, but have no reference.
On the rear panel is written:

" ORANGE music
3/4 new Compton St.
London W.C.2
SER.NO.L.S. 8548 "

You could almost date the mixer by using the address.
Ask Orange when they were at 3/4 new Compton St. London W.C.2.

It's one way of dating Orange things. They have had a few different addresses. They even moved recently.

My Orange channel mixer works great now. There was already a power supply inside the case, but it had been disconnected and replaced by an external power supply. So my tech just had to plug the power, and the mixer came to live once again. He changes some fried condensers on the tracks, and now the sound is great ! Very punchy sound indeed ! A nice treble and nice medium frequencies, a lot of space around the sounds. there is a lack of deep deep bass however, but I can have it when turning the pots of the general output EQ's.
The sound is very warm, and even the saturation (no input attenuation)is a smooth crunch. Perfect for analog synths.
I apologize because there's a lot of rockers and guitar heroes by this forum, but I can't say anything else about this beautiful mixer: It's perfect for Dub music !

Is there any chance of you taking some decent pictures of it? It would be cool to be able to see detailed pictures of it?

Ok, I promise. I just have to find a friend with a digital camera, and then I'll take some pics from every sides (and from the very intimacy of the old lady too...). If not this week, then in 3 weeks, because I'll be on holiday.
To be continued...
