I have an AD30TCH. When I plug one 16ohm PPC212 cabinet into the 16 ohm out, the tone is full and balanced with decent bottom end. When I daisy chain two 16ohm PPC212 cabinets into one 8ohm out, there is a remarkable loss of tone. The two cabs together sound extremly bright with no bottom end whatsoever. I tryed adjusting the eq to make up for this tone loss/change, but that doesn't help. Would any body please explain why this tone loss is happening? Thanks!

the reason as i understand it is as follows:

if you daisy chain the cabinets then each speaker is receiving 1/4th the total watts of the head. so each speaker is seeing 7.5 watts. with just one 2x12 plugged in each speaker is receiving 1/2th the total watts of the head, so 15 watts each. with one 2x12 you are pushing the speakers harder making more bottom end. with 4 speakers you aren't pushing the speakers as hard and losing bottom end.

i'm not 100% sure on this one, i'm just trying to use common sense.

anyone else?

not sure about this. It still should be as loud and full. Are there two 8 ohm outputs? If so, plug each cab separately into the two 8 ohm outs.

If there aren't, just disregard this post.

i've not tried it with my orange, becaus i have only one 2x12 cab, but a friend of mine uses a Hughes&Kettner Combo and if he adds a second cab it is the same result as you described. So, it seems to me that "ecto coolest" is on the right way.

It is a wattage issue. Having 2 2x12 connected to the AD30 you have 240 watts handling on a 30 watt amp.
The speakers will not be driven hard enough to even start breaking up.
It will sound like you changed your pre amp tubes to a low gain.
This will good if you want to use effects to give you distortion, but you speakers wont without.
Why do you need 2 2x12's, one should be fine.
Otherwise get lower wattage speakers that your amp will drive.

The reason I asked why you needed 2 ppc212's was for the AD30 question you asked at the start of this post.
I had no idea you were getting an AD140. Of course 2 is fine for that amp.

sounds to me like the two cabs are out of phase with each other. you get that when the +/- leads are reversed relative to each other. this would be from inconsistent wiring internally. but, to get a real answer rather than guessing, call either Jason or Graham at Orange USA. Very helpful dudes.

as an add on to the previous post, doesn't bclaire have a full stack he hooks up to his ad140, and if you daisy chain the two 4*12 cabs together you'd get the same effect, no?

I'm just poppin' in here, but as far as I can think, it's a Wattage-problem, or maybe the wiring, I don't know enough about that.

but about the "double 4x12" on a AD140 ...
30w -> 240 == 1/8
or
140w -> 480 == 1/3.4

So with 2 4x12's hooked op in daisy chain, there is still a "double" of power hitting the speakers no ... (altough I tought celestion V30's were 70watts ?)

bummer iron man, i thought i could pick up your orange equipment for cheap on ebay but.....now that you're problem's solved...just kidding. i also like the idea of the two pp12 cabs, it's a combo i've fantasizing with for some time now and i like your thinking, lighter to move around, cool vibe......just gotta wait to get the spare cash but i'm sure that's where i'm headed too
