I play bass but I'm not a bass player.
Make of that what you will
Actually, the only bass I own is a cheapy - an Epiphone EBM-5 5-string - but it serves me well and gives a tastier sound than my bass player's Mexican-built Fender Precision bass.

She led me out to the Bikini Atoll, right to the edge of the exclusion zone, and pointed to a dandelion growing in the ashes, like a joke for the living.

Hello.
Ibanez SR300DX bass. It used to have P-J configuation EMG pickups, but I pulled them out and put a Duncan Hot jazz stack in the bridge, and a Fender P-bass pup in the neck. Sounds nice.
I use an old series 6 Trace Elliot GP7 combo. It's OK... not great. I don't play much bass these days.

Bass is my main instrument and always has been. I have a custom Fender Jazz style bass constructed from Warmoth parts with a solid Walnut body, maple neck with ebony board, Bartolini P and dual coil J pickups and Aguilar OBP-1 preamp. I plug into an Orange AD200B modified with 1 Telefunken 12AX7, 1 RCA 5751, and 1 Tung Sol 12AT7 (and hopefully GE 6550s after christmas :D). This gets sent through two cabs built by Joey Nahas from D.C. each loaded with 1 Eminence 12 and a Fostex horn (although we usually have to use one of these as a vocal monitor;)). The speaker output first gets sent through my Countryman DI to the house (highly recommended config for getting the whole sound of your amp). I also use the incredible sounding Electro Harmonix Bass Micro Synthesizer.
mmmmmm drop

Ditto the play bass but not a bass player...
I bought an '83 '57 reissue P-Bass for demos...
... and since then added a '68 Gibson EB-2D bass in burgundy sparkle, a '70 Telebass, 73 Fender Musicmaster, and then two basses I designed with Musicmaster necks and Jazzmaster bodies- sound great like a full scale but shorter scale.
I use a modified 66 Fender Bandmaster head that has four 6L6's and is loud and clean through an Orange 1X15.
I have done fill-in bass work for a friend's band a few times...
Here's the most recent bass I made:
Yes that's real gold leaf...

It has been a while this was shown here so ...
AD200B MK2 with 8x10 orange cabinet
AD140B 006 with 4x10 orange cabinet
MXR DI+ to mixing panel
Fulltone Bassdrive
For smaller live shows I use the AD200B with the OBC 410. Bigger shows I use the AD200B with 8x10. Ideal situation is to mic the cab and use the MXR DI+. Use a russian big muff for fuzz and boost, and a Fulltone Bassdrive to spice up the tone with some gain and for distortion. Also use a little distortion from my MXR DI+. I also have Boss bass synth and Line 6 DM4 for playin' around. Main bass is USA Fender Jazz of 2001 with DR .110 Hi Beam strings.
From dec 16 till jan 3th we're in the studio recording our next full length album. Don't know yet what my studio sound will be, I take it all with me and we'll see with the engineer what sounds best. I love the mid of the 8x10, but also the bass of the 4x10 ... We'll see. My bass had a fretjob done (replaced top 5 frets and worked on the other frets), and it's the best thing that happend to it! Sounds just like new! Never new frets could 'eat' that much of your sound.
