For me it was just the darker warmth natural tone of an all tube amp in a portable well built lunchbox frame which made it all the more practical nowadays. The moment I first heard an Orange, the Dark Terror, around 5 years ago being played thru a Marshall 412 at a local Guitar Center, I was instantly sold on them and ended up with 5 Terrors shortly afterwards. It was the only amp that had such a versatile range of tones at monstrous loud volumes coming out of a small package with so very little controls needed.

What's not to like about that?

I had been playing through two Marshall Superleads for years, which sounded good, but nowhere near as good as the Oranges did. Never looked back.

I'd say you had an epiphany! Or, an illuminating realization of

For me, a by chance hunch on a British sounding amp, different, yet with a history to it; led me to
find the lunchbox sized Dark Terror. it's more than a Metal amp, I found my own tones and so glad that I took my own advice and acted on it.

First noticed Orange around 2004. I had been playing guitar for a few years but still only had my Strat knockoff (Slammer by Hamer!) and little solid state practice combo, and I was looking towards the future. Checked out anything and everything I could and all the typicals like Marshall, MESA, etc. I was a teenage punk rock kid and wanted something aggressive yet classic sounding. I started seeing a lot of the post-hardcore bands of the time had these amps that I had never really heard of, that I thought were maybe obscure relics of the past, but then they kept popping up more and more.

So I started researching what these ORANGE colored amplifiers might be and was surprised yet humored at the obvious name. I came across the Orange site, which still looked like this at the time:

I was really interested in the AD30 cause it seemed like the hotshit amp, and the Rocker 30 since it was hot off the presses. Unfortunately before I got to try one (and before I realized how elusive they would be for a bit) I moved from Atlanta, where Orange amps were prevalent, to Indianapolis, where I'd have my friends drive me to every potential Orange dealer to try one. Usually I'd find the store wasn't even open anymore.

Fast forward a bit and my friends band opens up for the band The AKAs. Their guitarist ran a 70s SG into an AD30 half stack. Fast forward to 2009 and I've bought myself a 1973 Gibson SG Standard that I'm blasting through an AD30HTC and PPC212. Dig it!

TL/DR I did it all for the nookie!

Just this!

But, the first Orange I tried was a Rockerverb 50 (mk1). It was many years after the Oasis clip, but I was still in a indie-rock band. The Rockerverb had way more gain that I liked and needed, so I bought a Vox AC30 instead.

Some year latter, my Orange GAS was still strong, and I bought a Tiny Terror HW (with a ppc410) for a punk rock band. It absolutly fitted the band and the sound I had in my head. Still have that amp.

The band broke, and I wanted a small combo that could do rehearsal and home playing. I bought a Rocker 15. It was a beast. I really really like the amp... I joigned another band, and after a year playing with it, I found the Rocker 15 a little bit too small for some gigs. Sold it, bought a Ad30 and a ppc112 to play with my TT at home (or some rehearsal/small gig). I miss the Rocker 15 sometimes... I think a liked it more then the AD30, but I like/need the headroom the AD30 with a ppc410 gives me.

I also discovered by owning 3 Oranges amp and playing a bunch of other ones in shop, that I really like their low/mid Crunch, but I dont like when they sound to modern... so no more then 3 gain stages for me. Rockerverb, Or15, TH30... all sound too modern for me.
Jazzmaster '58, Jazzmaster '62, Stratocaster '56, Telecaster Pro, Gibson es-175 '59, Gibson Flying V Japan edition, Epihone Elistist Casino.
1967 Vibro-Champ, Tiny Terror HW, AD30HTC
... and a bunch of fuzz

I bought a RV50 combo mk1 1st and as hard as I tried I could not get whatI wanted out of it. Traded for a closed back ppc212 and a RV100 head. It only likes certain pedals and guitars and it took me a long time to figure it out. NOS pre amp tubes helped a lot. I have found that if you treat a piece of equipment like it is the only one that you have you will eventually figure it out.
