TH-30 Volume spike

I’m new to the board and have looked everywhere under the FAQ’s but don’t see my issue. Please help, if possible. I appreciate it.

I just bought a new TH-30, and a single PPC112 cab. When I turn up the clean side, the volume adjusts as expected from 1-2, then SPIKES into high output between 2-2.5. After 2.5, it returns to its expected level. This only happens on clean channel. When I looked at the tube schematics I assumed it was clean preamp tube on the front far right. I reset that tube and nothing changed, then I flipped switch using only half the 12ax7 tubes at the lower volume, same issue.

I really want to keep this amp, but it’s annoying. Anyone else have this problem.

Thank you!

Could be the volume pot. Might need spraying out or replacing.

My option is the same as Sootio; check that volume pot. It might be dodgy and need replacing. A shot of contact cleaner might solve this, but if not, the whole pot should be replaced.

Take it back. For what you paid for it, it should be performing flawlessly. If you do decide to try to clean the pot, be sure to use an electronic cleaner with a lubricant. Regular contact cleaner can damage a pot, I know from experience. FWIW, I have a can of Deoxit Faderlube that will last the rest of my life.

Agree NGG! Deoxit is what I use. Some contact cleaners can cause a problem. The best alternative is to take the amp back......that pot should not be functioning as you describe it in you post.

Will add that amp should be returned without an attempt to clean the pot. Or let the vendor do it so any warranty violations are on them.
