Or15 insane.

Ok so.. Hi y'all. New to the forum but have been lurking for awhile. Canadian eh. Been playing for like 30+ years off and on, done some gigging in a few bands and been around the block in more ways than one. I can't even count how, many different amps I've had over the years in "the search" for the sounds I like. I've had amps from most contenders except for the corks in the 2k plus realm and I picked up an Orange Or15 head in a gear trade (for a Blackstar ht40 I had kicking around). Holy hell this thing rocks like no tomorrow. Very Decent cleans and gain levels for days. Anyone who says this, amp can't play heavy stuff or modern is delusional. I have it going through a blackstar 1x12 (searching for a 2x12 deal) at the moment and this things rocks hard. Loud as hell. Punchy. Articulate. Thick. What an amp. I'm running an mxr gtod gain off for a little, sparkle and shine and this li'l beastly thing delivers any tone I want perfectly. And yes, definitely loud enough to gig and keep with drums and cut. She's a keeper. Now to find her a cab... Anyways... Nuff said. \m/

Congratulations on your recent find and welcome to the forum and to the family of all things Orange! While I don't have the OR15, I have played it a few years back at a local GC store and it is indeed a killer sounding amp. Orange is my favorite of all amps and I too have tried many thru my 45+ of playing, I came to Orange for my tone just around 4 years ago from a life long love/hate affair with rack mounted rigs which included solid state and digital gear, now all gone for in favor of simpler rigs that only include all tube amps and analog FX. I currently own 5x Orange Terrors (lately, I have this affinity for lunchbox amp heads) a few of which are voiced not too unlike your OR15. They all have that Classic British Crunch and yet they can do modern metal with ease. I love how they sound thru my 3x speaker cabs; a Marshall 412 with Celestion Vintage 30s and both EVH 5150 III 212 & 112 that come with the Celestion 70th Anniversary (G12H30) speakers. But I've read on plenty of forums that Orange Amps pair up quite well with other model Celestions as well as Jensen, Eminence, and Warehouse speakers. I've described these amps just as you did; punchy, articulate, and thick and have often added thunderous with fantastic clarity to harmonics, they do indeed clean up very nicely. And they handle an array of FX Pedals very easily both in front and thru the FX Loop (which is tube driven and buffered). I've had the MXR GT-OD, excellent overdrive for Orange, I traded that one in a years ago for the MXR il Diavolo overdrive and use many others with my Orange Terrors.

Some players say that 15W is not enough power especially to gig, they could not be more wrong! As for speaker/cab recommendations for the OR15, I say look into speaker cabs like mine; Marshall & EVH 5150 III with V30s and G12H30s but do your research on what other speakers do well with Orange that other players have used. I am confident you'll find a good match. Come to this forum for news, questions and answers, and how you're Orange experience is going. Enjoy your new treasure and ROCK ON! Good luck!

Thanks man. I'll prob end up with an evh 2x12 or a mesa. I've tried to submit some pics of my rig but no luck. I've downsized as I get older and like a minimalist setup. I truly think less is more . Only a delay and spark boost in the loop and the gtod and tuner out front. May grab one more pedal.. Only because I can fit one more on the tiny board I use lol.

I couldn't agree with you more but I confess to being a pedal junkie with 2x 24" x 12" sized boards of FX, one has 12 and the other 14 I think maybe more I have look again. But yes a simpler rig can give you as much pleasure and not clutter you. Which is why these Orange amps are great, no unnecessary knobs and features that just hinders the signal, their logic is the shortest path from guitar to speaker results in the purest tone. If you go for an EVH 212 you'll be in tone nirvana, a cab that is extremely versatile, excellent quality build, looks great but priced right, a bit smaller in dimensions, and lighter in weight of competitor models.A cab that suits well for home practice, jamming in a band situation, and definitely gig-worthy. Those Celestion 70th Anniversarys are unreal, perfect match for Orange!

Curious about the volume on an OR-15.

I gig in a cover band and there are times I need pristine cleans. So a question for those of you who own this amp. Will I be able to coax pristine cleans out of an OR-15 at gigging volume?

Using and CR-60 now which gives me those cleans in spades, but I've been gassing for an OR-15 for some time now. Unfortunately we don't have a shop around that carries Orange so it's not easy for me to test.

Doubtful you will get loud enough pristine cleans.

The Rocker 15 Terror has loud enough cleans to hang with a drummer, and then some.

Yeah, the Rocker 15, with its natural channel, is a better choice.

Ive done several gigs with my R15 terror Id say it comes close but really depends how clean you want your cleans! and what guitar your using !

If you ve got to have pristine cleans and loads of headroom then youll need more wattage imo but if you want a largely clean channel than compressess when you dig in with a tele (which I use) when the natural channel could nail it for you. If your using a Les paul youll probably have less headroom.
