Hi,
I just purchased a TH30C combo amp. It really rocks, which is great.

Forgive the newbie question, but this is my first tube amp. When I'm on the dirty channel, if I turn the gain control counter-clockwise, the sound not only cleans up, but the volume drops quite a bit. As measured with a sound level meter, I'm seeing about a 20 decibel drop between having the gain at 2:00 versus 9:00.

Is this normal?

Yes. A gain knob is basically a volume knob and vice-versa.

It's normal. if you reduce gain, increase your volume to compensate, and vice versa.
