hi guys, heres my situation. ive got an ad30tc and i like the sound a lot. ive also got a solid state plug in rectifier just in case the stock one dies on me. my buddy just offered to trade me the solid state rectifier for an older RCA 5ar4/gz34 (made in great britain). is this wise? how will an older (but better) rectifier sound?

Is the RCA rectifier new or used? If it's new (NOS), then sure...take it if you want to. You probably won't notice a difference over any other tube rectifier, but an older, better quality tube will last much longer, provided it hasn't been used.
If there's any noticable difference, it wouldn't be in tone...but in feel. The amp may break up a little smoother, and feel a little more defined. But in all reality, the difference would be so subtle you probably won't even notice it.
If that tube is used, keep your solid state plug in. God knos where it's been and how much use it's had.
