Orange Crush 35rt through headphones

I really like this amp however I live in an apartment and there are times I need to play with headphones.

I've tried listening through the headphone socket (using my Audio Technica MX50s) but the sound is far too trebly and fizzy. Does anyone have any tips for headphone playing with this amp and getting a decent sound?

At the moment most of my gain is from the amp and I play anything from blues and funk to high gain metal.

The clean channel sounds great so my current thoughts are towards one of two options:

1. Buy another dist. pedal and play through the clean channel;
2. Buy a new pedal and run it through the effects loop.

Other things I've thought of: Try a compressor and/or a eq pedal to smooth things out a bit.

Does anyone have any experience of this? I'm open to alternative suggestions as well :D

In case anyone is interested: The solution was a EQ pedal. I bought a MXR 6-band one and it's worked well. I would suggest anyone who is going to buy this amp and use it with headphones to also budget for an EQ pedal as it makes all the difference.
