Rig re-think.... TremLord?????

Post by Dark Helmet » Wed Mar 06, 2019 5:15 pm

I'm in the process of re-thinking and re-sorting a few things in my setup.

Currently my #1 and #2 are the Thunderverb50 into a PPC412 and an AD30TC (combo, 212OB).
Now, I do love both of those, the TV50 for its flexibility (attenuator!), and the AD30TC because it's just awesome and is no-contest, the BEST sounding amp I have.

I need something a little more portable... as I have a regular gig that is VERY tight on space and I don't need that much volume. The AD30 sounds perfect, but it's big, and there are a LOT of stairs between home and the gig... and I'm getting old.

I thought the OR15 and a PPC112 would be a nice fit, but they don't sound right. not bad, just wrong.

so, thinking about a TremLord and a decent drive pedal (onboard Reverb, loop, switchable power options), or maybe an AD30 head to go with my PPC112...

anyone have any experiences/thoughts?

I probably SHOULD sell the AD50 to pay for all of it, but I probably won't... too worried that I'll never find one again, even though I never use it (SO LOUD!)

Lets get to the real issue. You need an excuse to buy another amp  Tremlord would be a nice addition to your collection! Seriously though, I haven't heard one live yet, but all the demos sound great. I don't care what people say about pedal gain vs amp gain, if you find one that sounds good, thats just what it sounds like....good.

lol.... fully true.

I have this really bad feeling that I'm going to end up spending about $15K on gear this year... I'm already at $3500... (Taylor, new mixer, and some other odds and ends).

I am trying to find a new small pedalboard (Nano or Nano+) for cheap, and then I owe my son a Fender JMJ Mustang...

Then I need an AD30 head regardless...

If I could find an AD15 112 combo, I would probably do that without a second thought and skip the TremLord, but I can't find one.

The AD1512 is fantastic. Absolutely great.

Are you in the US or OZ?

The AD15 turns up on ebay UK occasionally, and usually sells for £300/£350. If you can get someone to ship it..... it may not be more expensive than buying one from your own country.

That said...... the tremlord sounds fantastic. All the demo I've listened to were very impressive.

I'm in the US. there are a decent number of AD15s out there, but they are all the 10" combo, not the 12.

Might be worth looking at building a lightweight 112 cab around the AD15? I really dont like the sound or feel of 10" speakers personally. Rather than 18mm ply, go with 12mm, not for the front baffle, but everything else? Put in a Creamback Neo speaker and you'll have a really nice lightweight combo on your hands.

yeah, saw that... the only one out there I think. a grand is hard to take when you can get an AD30 head AND a PPC112 for the same money...

It seems to be a ridiculous price for one that isn't mint too.

In the UK, they fetch a little more than a Tiny Terror combo, but not much more.

Crickey, you could get one from the UK shipped to you, pay a professional to rewire the power transformer, and still have change for spare Valves........

The Last one in the UK sold for £325..... :(

But hey up, you get all the cheap boogies and other USA boutique amps are much more affordable your side of the pond.

That's still pretty high considering it was pretty trashed out and only sold for £399 new. I wonder if the SS rectifier is just a replacement for the valve or a permanent mod?

I reckon it'll be a plug in SS replacement.

Crazy, a lot of the greatness of the AD15 comes from the GZ34.

Yeah, I bought both of mine in very good condition, both cost me £275. But the last one was 2 or 3 years ago.
