Save up for a 50 watt amp to be on the safe side or if you need it right away get one on a payment plan.
The difference of volume between a 30 watts and 50 watts is not even 3db. It's quite marginal, but a 50 watts will have more headroom. I am ok 95% of my playing time with a 15 watts amp, so a 50 watts is overkill for me.
I have 5 to 50w Orange amps..... most of the time, my 15w AD15 is too much in terms of volume.

But my RV50, R30 and Genz Benz Black Pearl 30, my other 30w amp) can play at the same volume too, but offer more low end, and an overall more robust, fuller sound.

I dont play metal, but wven playing blues / rock, thw extra thump of fullness of the bigger amps is lovely to hear. If course, my 50 or 30w amp can be quite a bit louder, but not necessarily so. It depends on where you set them.

I must say though..... having that extra power at hand is tempting though..... the louder they are, the better they sound.....

Shouldn't the TH30 sound a little bit bigger or more present trough a 4x12 than the Rocker15 just because of the bigger transformers?
I don't know...
Anyway maybe you'll only need the clean channel anyway, sweet and chimey cleans and it has a very nice overdrive past noon.
To me the Dirty Channel doesn't sound that fizzy at all, at least on higher volume settings. And the shape knob stays on the left side most of the time.

Hi there,
I had for 3 years a TH30 head, using it for stoner rock (live & rehearsal), I sold it to get a used Rocker 30.
Good choice indeed and I don't understand why I did not make it before....Overdriven tone is way way better !!!
Hope it help you

Very different amps indeed.
The R30 is near enough the perfect low watt stoner amp as well as classic rock/blues. That open fuzzy gain is something special!!!

So...

I've tried the TH30 in a shop. I've spend 10 minutes with it and it's clearly not my type of gain/sound I need. The clean channel was excellent thought, but I prefer the gain of my Rocker 15. I dont need a 4 gain stage channel.

I could have wait to buy a use Rocker 30, but the lack of effects loop bother. I use quite alot of reverb, delay and echo in my band.

So, I decided to buy a ppc112 to use with my Rocker 15. I compared it to my ppc410, and despite the ppc112 have a little less volume, it have alot more mids, so I should be pass throught the mix better. And it takes alot less space on stage (in a 5 pieces band, with usually dont have much space on stage).

The real test will happen in our next show. Hope it will work; is not, I will find a used Rocker 30.

Perhaps trying a lower gain pre-amp tube (1st) could help?

I put a JJ 12ax7 MG (Mid Gain) tube in my AD15, and it helped tame the gain and allow me to crank the Master volume, getting some more headroom and volume.

Cheap option to try at least, before buying another amp....

If you keep the gain knob at noon or below you avoid the last 2 gain stages. I'm just saying...

Nice to know... I might end up with the TH30 if my Rocker 15 with a ppc112 dont work. My next show is in March. If so, I will definitely put a different tubes in the pre-amp of the drive channel.

I keep the gain at about 11:00 or maybe a little less. It sounds very much like the clean channel cranked up.
