AD30tc volume drop

Post by afjungemann » Mon Nov 12, 2018 4:55 am

My AD30 twin channel combo has a pretty noticeable volume drop between channel 1 and 2. I haven’t tested all positions but primarily when the gain is around noon and volumes are both at 9 am. 1 is quite a bit louder than 2. Is that normal?

Hi, I'm certainly not aware of any noticeable mismatch in volume on either channel although channel 2 may be a little louder with gain knob positions the same as that channel has more gain earlier on....I never use both channels with gain knob levels set the same. I can check it out tonight.

Swap the pre-amp tubes from one channel to the other and see if that changes anything.

As Ronnie mentioned, channel 2 has a little more gain and should be slightly louder at the same settings. But what you're describing isn't normal.

Ok, ended up figuring out the issue. I think it was V1 for channel 2 wasn't seated properly so it wasn't making great contact. The tech I use got it all squared away and holy cow. This amp just keeps surprising me. I think my impression was kind of negative way back when I was looking for more gain and a more modern amp (ie usable gain without being so loud).

Even now that I realize how good it is, it is almost like it has to keep reproving itself and it just keeps getting better.

Good work orange.

The AD series are simply fantastic. I've had 2 AD5, 2 AD15, one AD30tc combo, they are all simply amazing.
Such beautiful edge of break up, some if the best cleans I've ever heard, a snarling biting yet smooth gain that remains detailed and articulate in all conditions......

They are a modern classic.
I still have my 2nd AD5 and AD15. Not going anywhere!!!!
