Need help concerning AD30

Hello!
I searched the forum pretty intensely and found some things concerning my following question but I guess I'm looking for personal opinion....
I mostly play with an Orange OR15 (it's absolutely wonderful for what I need)
And I mostly play a modern metal (think bring me the horizon, the architects, etc)
I recently acquired an AD30 (picked it up in a deal with a 2x12, too good to pass on).
Now, I've played with the AD30, it sounds amazing (seriously) but doesn't have the gain I usually play with.
The Samash by me has a used TH30 (which would have the gain I like) and is willing to do a straight trade. The AD30 retails higher.
Should I go for the trade, being like I'm more likely to play the TH30 more often? But the AD30 retails higher, maybe it'll be worth more in the long run to hold onto it, being that the OR15 meets my needs anyway?
Thoughts and opinions would be most appreciated, thank you in advance!!

I know what Iā€™d do, and thats find a good dirt pedal. But it may very well be the TH30 suits you better. Surprisingly to me, their used values are similar. Condition is a factor. Iā€™d test the amp thouroughly, listen for excess noise etc...

Thanks Jondog! I've been thinking about that too! But definitely a good call though, I need to play the TH30 first. A Rocker is what I really want! Haha
Thanks again though.

The twin channel ad30 is superb and more than enough gain for classic rock but metal is not what it's for.

Maybe the th30 will suit you more and it is voiced more for metal with more gain and less sag but as jondog suggests the cheapest option try a pedal with and ad30 first.

One thing that may be an issue is only one eq control on the th30.

In anycase if the OR15 meets your needs maybe having an orange with a different voicing will come in handy, more versatile than the th30 imho.... and it's very good with pedals..... you keep the gain low and volume high on channel one it's the best pedal base I've used in all the various orange amps I've used despite no effects loop.

The AD30 only has 2 gain stages, the OR15 has 4.

For the AD30 to be able of the gain you want, you'd need to get the power valves cooking (REALLY LOUD) or use a dirt box.

The AD30 takes all sorts of OD a d fuzz very well.

It might also be the wrong amp for you.

A R30 will have the same "issue" as the AD30 compared to the TH30 ie they both have less gain.

as Jondog states, this is a really really easy fix.. even just a clean flat boost will increase the amount of overdrive, or use an OD pedal to help shape the tone and turning it up will also get the power stage contributing.

Thanks for the thoughts guys! All very helpfulšŸ˜ but so you guys agree I should just boost the AD rather than straight trade for the TH?

Give it a go. Iā€™d go with an overdrive rather than a boost, just to tighten it up.

I would try that 1st.

It takes ODs, tube screamer, fuzz really well, as well as boost.
And frankly..... if you're into stoner rock, the AD30 can do that remarkably well without anything else added. Remember that less gain usually means a more articulate, clearer and more dynamic tone. Gain, to a degree, can lessen all these qualities by saturating the signal.

You don't need that much gain to sound really heavy.

I'm a little late to the party. But I'd find a pedal to throw in front of the AD30. I've owned, all at one time, an AD30, Rocker 30, and TH30. The AD30 always wins for me, regardless of genre. It takes pedals like a champ and generally has a better tone at stage volumes, to my ears anyway.

Later on you should look into grabbing a TH30 to run with the AD30. It'll catch a depth that's way rad.

Good luck finding your tone!

I think you should go play the TH30. Why keep an amp that's not doing what you want it to do? The TH30 sounds like exactly what you need.
