Always on pedals - your thoughts?

Do you have a pedal in your rig which is always on? If yes, then why?

My always on is Boss CH-1 Super Chorus barely noticeable (until I turn it off). I run it in the FX loop of my Rockerverb 50w MK1 to thicken up my tone, add some 80s flavour. Works great on heavy distortion. Settings: E. Level 12:00, EQ 2:00, Rate 10:00, Depth 2:00. Second pedal which is sometimes on all the time is Maxon OD-9, set as a clean boost in front of amp (Drive dimmed, tone at noon and level around 3:00) - cuts some low end and gives me the lovely mids!

I don't have any always-on pedals, but if I did it would be the Xotic EP Boost. I used to have an Echoplex in the chain back in the day and the preamp was always on - which is all the EP Boost is. I tried using it but the battery wouldn't last for a whole gig and I couldn't be bothered to actually buy an AC adaptor! ha ha ha

The only one I never play without is my volume pedal (Boss FV500, but could be any)

Like Billy said, EP booster, set unity gain is enough for enhancement. This is a bit out there, but maybe along the lines of players realizing the Echoplex preamp did something to their tone; I've had my Boss VB-2w Vibrato in the chain, which when not in Bypass mode, keeps the Bucket Brigade circuitry in the signal path without the vibrato effect. It seems to affect the sound in a way I like. Its technically always on in the Latch and Unlatch modes. Bypass mode is the regular Boss buffered bypass.

Theres only the xotic ep booster than meets this criteria for me. A great boost but set low really livend up a clean channel like the natural channel on a Rocker 30, adds a little gain and a little sweetness, superb pedal.

I have a home made reverb pedal and it's on almost always. I'll turn it off only when I'm playing some really high gain palm muted metal. But orange and Egnater amps love some verb 🙂

Always on for dirt is ISP Decimator. For clean it's Timeline and Blusky.

Hudson Broadcast low gain side set more as a clean boost adds life and a wee bit of sparkle to my base tone which I love.

Always on... Strymon El Capistan, set for a little slap back, Strymon Flint with a smattering of 60's reverb, Keeley Compressor S & L both set @ 9:00 O'Clock, or thereabout. For dirt, I switch between JHS Bolt and Sweet Honey OD, or the two in combination. I run my amp relatively clean. I Play country and classic rock.

Kind of the same, ep boost always on ... for certain songs.
When I feel the bottom end needs to be tighter, and who doesn’t need a tighter bottom end, I’ll leave the ep boost on and turn the guitar volume down. The rest of the time use as a solo boost.

My always "on" pedal is the Dunlop Echoplex EP103 delay, its a warm rich tone and set modestly, slightly subdued it will thicken, fatten rhythms and give leads a nice punch without getting overly saturated.
