Is it Safe?

Post by Caoimhin » Sat Jun 30, 2018 5:58 pm

I saw Sleep a few months ago and noticed Al had an Orange guitar amp behind him. I thought maybe it was part of Matt's rig but I checked on Orange's site and it shows that Al uses a Dual Dark 100 and 212 cab. Does this mean its safe to play bass through an Orange guitar cab? If that cab can survive a Sleep concert then I'm thinking its OK.

If you keep the volume at a reasonable level you will be fine. I also doubt he is running it all that loud as I'm sure they have good pa support. Might not be in 100 watt mode either.

I would say thats probably what most bands do. Sleep does mic their gear but they're also all about stage volume. It had to have been one of the loudest shows I've been to.

With PAs, it doesn't mean much. Hey, I saw muse, the loudest show I've seen. I was right at the back of the stadium, the PA did the job.

All these top bands play with in ear monitors, stage volume is actually of little practical use.

I would be seriously surprised if a bass player is running through a 2X12 live....

He uses 4 Ampeg 8x10s with SVT-Rs and an Orange half stack.

Is he splitting the bass signal so that high end from, say, an octave pedal goes through the Orange? That would make sense then...
