I am happy as a clam - two Fender in the house [with pics!]

Post by mici88 » Wed Jun 06, 2018 6:58 pm

They say life is all about chasing a dream. Big or small, does not matter, it is good to heave one. My dream was, apart from Rockerverb and PPC212, a true tele and a true strat. Luckily, I managed to get those beauties.

1) Fender Stratocaster 54 reissue - Made in Japan, 1993
2) Fender Telecaster Black Maple - Made in Japan, 1990.

Both aquired from well known and respected sellers in my country (Poland). I chose them over lots of Made in Mexico and Made in America. They just felt right, far superior to others (and more expesive, too) I tried. To be honest, they are in a pretty good damn shape for a 25+ years old guitars. I know we all could write a book about strats and teles, so I just throw few loose thoughts.

Strat
-THAT neck pickup tone, my godness!
-if I was to rate a strat playing comfort, then 11/10 is my rating
-I really tried to make it sound bad on my rockerverb mk1 and jcm900 2501 combo. I could not. It sounds at least good in literally every position.
-It is a really funk machine. I can't stop playing Can't stop and Get Lucky :D

Tele
-Tele. Does. Metal. Repeat. Tele. Does. Metal. Even with those stock pickups it is super punchy, aggressive and has so much power on hi gain. Sounds better than at least half of HH guitars I tried so far.
-It makes you rock. I can play cleans of strat, but tele forces me to drive everything harder.
-It cleans up so beautifully. I can play on my rockerverb's dirty channel boosted with Maxon OD-9, but when I roll down volume knob it really becomes pretty clean.
-Neck pickup is creamy. Like a true, home-made ice creams!

For Both
-single coils are noisy, so in the future I could think about pickups upgrade to some kind of Lace Sensors or Seymour Duncans, but for now I can live with that lovely hum!

Enough chit-chat. Here are some photos folks. I'm not a pro photographer, but I tried my best.

congrats, that tele is ballin! Lovely lovely. MIJ Fenders are immense value and things of beauty. I'm not a strat guy, so sorry I can't comment. :P

Tele's are surprisingly heavy. my fav guitarist, Teppei from Thrice at one time used a Telecaster into a Proco Rat into a Vox AC30 and has this heavy, brash, aggressive tone that just rips! Love telecasters!!!!

Well that's what I call a nice catch!
Congrats!!!
And yes, Tele's do Metal even with stock single coils.
Personally I accepted the single coil hum as kind of nature of the beast thing. I have a friend wich has a Buddy Guy Sigature Strat with Lace Sensor pups, and honestly I prefere the stock pups in my MIM Standard.
Just my personal taste.
Anyway enjoy those beast's they both look awesome and the MIJ Fender stuff usually is superb.

They both look pretty sweet!!!!

It's a long time since I've tried a traditional tele. I should try one again....

Yours looks really sweet - black on black + maple neck, very nice!!!

Thanks. Not only it has a killer look, but also it plays wonderful. Instantly my number 1 guitar!

Black + maple just feels and looks so proper :D

Nice score! I have a number of MIJ Fenders - awesome guitars!

The story is, when Fender was tooling up to do the reissues, the guitars from Fender Japan brought tears to the eyes of the USA builders since they were so accurate and they felt they couldn't make them as good!

(And to be honest, my 1982 Fender Strat '62 reissue, while a beautiful guitar, doesn't have the neck profile correct - my MIJ Fenders from the same era have it nailed)

Congrats!
MIJ Fenders from the eighties/early nineties are really great guitars, and these two seem to be in excellent condition as well!
Have Fun! :D
